Size Guide

Effective date: Oct. 15, 2026

This guide is for buyers choosing a size, and it explains how to read the maker’s chart on a ChantMantras listing.

Each chart comes from the maker

Most listings carry the maker’s own chart.

That is true of 38 of the 45 dresses. The chart gives garment measurements, taken with the dress lying flat, in both inches and centimeters, so it describes the dress and not the person wearing it; a tolerance of 0.5 to 1 inch (1 to 2.5 cm) either way is normal.

Charts list different measurements

No two makers measure the same points.

Measurement Charts that include it
Bust 38
Length 36
Waist 22
Sleeve 18
Shoulder 10
Hip 3
Hem width 1
Back length 1

A dress that fits is the best ruler

Start with a dress from the closet.

Choose one that fits the way a new dress should, lay it face up on a table and smooth it without stretching. Measure straight across the chest from underarm to underarm and double the figure for the bust; do the same at the narrowest part of the body for the waist; then measure the back from the collar seam down to the hem for the length.

Compare those three figures with the maker’s chart.

Typical bust figures differ by style

The three styles are cut differently.

Size Shirt (in) Velvet (in) Lace (in)
S 38.6 34.5 33.9
M 40.2 36.2 35.8
L 42.5 38.6 38.6

These figures are medians taken from the maker’s charts on Oct. 12, 2026, and they show the shirt dresses running roomier at the bust than the velvet and lace ones. For an actual order, the chart on the listing is the one that counts.

The maker’s note can change the choice

Eighteen listings carry the maker’s runs-small note.

On those dresses, one or two sizes above the usual letter may fit better. If the note and the chart disagree, go by the chart.

Stretch ratings are the maker’s own

Every listing with a chart also has a stretch rating.

The ratings are the maker’s: None on 17 dresses, Slight on 13, Medium on 5, Low on 2 and High on 1. With None or Low, pick a size whose chart figures are at least as large as the dress measured at home; with Medium or High, a figure slightly smaller can still work.

Seven listings have no chart

No usable maker’s chart exists for CMT-LA-013, CMT-LA-014, CMT-SH-002, CMT-SH-011, CMT-VE-005, CMT-VE-007 and CMT-VE-009.

Each of those listings says so. Go by the usual size and the maker’s notes, and keep in mind that a size that does not fit is a change-of-mind return.

Lengths range from mini to maxi

Every listing names its length in words.

Most charts add the length in inches. Mini is the most common length, found on 20 dresses; above-the-knee follows with 10, then midi with 7 and maxi with 4, while 2 are knee-length, 1 is a long dress and 1 is maxi at the back.

Plus sizes have two dedicated styles

The full range runs from XS to 5XL.

XL comes in 38 designs, 2XL in 18, 3XL in 6 and 4XL in 3. Two velvet dresses are cut for plus sizes, CMT-VE-012 in XL to 4XL and CMT-VE-015 in XL to 5XL, and one design, CMT-LA-002, also comes in XS.

A wrong size is a change-of-mind return

A dress that does not fit goes back as a change of mind.

Return postage is the buyer’s, and no restocking fee applies ($0). The Refund and Returns Policy has the full procedure.
